Using VoicePilot on iOS
VoicePilot on iOS allows you to dictate hands-free, run voice commands in Microsoft 365, and keep your own notes and reminders, all from your iPhone.
Four tabs run along the bottom: Speak, Notes, History, and Profile.
🎙️ Dictating and Hands-Free Mode
The Speak tab opens on Tap to speak. Tap it, talk, and you'll get a transcript, the same core flow as on desktop. Before you speak you can pick a mode: Dictation for plain text, Command to have VoicePilot act on what you said, or Note to file it away.
For situations where you can't hold your phone, switch to Hands-free mode: it listens continuously, showing Listening … while you talk, and you can tap anywhere to pause or Done & send to finish. It also works over CarPlay, and you can start it by holding your volume button instead of tapping.
For example, on your commute you can hold the volume button, dictate a message hands-free, and send it without ever looking at your phone.
💡 If you lose connection mid-dictation, your recording is saved rather than discarded, so you can transcribe it again later.
🤖 Running Commands with Commander
Commander allows you to speak a command and have VoicePilot carry it out in Microsoft 365, instead of just transcribing what you said. Tap Speak command and say what you want done.
The catalog, headed What VoicePilot gets done, lists what's available: Call, Email, Reminder, Task, Teams message, and Voice message. Each carries an example, such as "Call Marcus", "Remind me tomorrow at 9 …", or "Message Anna in Teams …", so you can hear the shape of a command before trying one.
Some commands get a review step before anything is sent. An email, for instance, opens as Review email with To, Subject, and a Send or Discard choice. If a name matches more than one contact, Commander asks Who do you mean? rather than guessing.
💡 Not every command is available on iPhone yet. Anything still in development is marked Coming soon in the catalog, and Mac-only actions say so outright.
📝 Notes and Reminders
Notes are your own dictated notes, kept on your device with the original audio attached, so you can play a note back as well as read it. Open one and you'll get Copy, Share, and Task actions, and you can search the list once it grows.
They're separate from Apple's Notes app, and nothing you dictate here is written into it.
Reminders live one level down, inside Commander rather than on a tab of their own. They're created through voice commands and synced from your organization's VoicePilot backend, listed under Upcoming, and they don't read from or write to Apple's Reminders app either.
⌨️ Dictating from the Keyboard
Once you've added the VoicePilot keyboard, switch to it from any app's keyboard picker to dictate straight into that text field.
If something's missing, the keyboard tells you exactly what: turn on Allow "Full Access" in Settings > Keyboard, allow microphone access in the VoicePilot app, or open the app and sign in. Once everything's in place, it shows Formatting … while your dictation is cleaned up.
🔎 Your History
The History tab keeps a list of everything you've dictated on iOS, with a Words count next to each entry. Until you've dictated something, it simply says there are no dictations yet.
